Hatred: A Love Story
I hate you like death and darkness,
Like you've done something
Horrifyingly horrible and utterly unutterable,
Like you're dear Adolf's evil twin.
I hate you like you cursed
My mother, my father,
My sister, my brother,
My car, my house, and my dog.
You've been compassionate, patient,
Almost painfully kind,
And I've used you like air and water and dirt.
I love you almost as tenderly as you love me.
I need you almost as ardently as you need me.
I want to watch your hopes and dreams
Burn into the ash that will coat and stain my soul.
I once was here but now am there,
Once was good but now am gone,
For as I harbor such hate for you,
I find I'm lost--this path won't make it through.
