Torrent of Water and Life
How long can the water flow,
turning hewn rough to smooth-
With rocks, how long, nobody knows,
just that the water soothes.
How still can we remain,
life's water rushing succubus;
how long until smoothness fades,
as life has its way with us?
As long as we stand for it,
these lives, deaths and losses build;
until the torrent chips us bit by bit,
our smoothness hewn to rougher build.
