This Foggy Spyglass
This foggy spyglass-
restrictive and cataract'ed of age,
small, large-impersonal, personal-
always from a vantage-
close,
but never near-
Over there, but never here.
Lips move and words issue-
strange bumbling jumbo
to my unattenuated attention.
How heavy after so many years,
lugging this brass & glass tube in my mind-
ever at the ready to move to the long view.
Velvet brass eyepiece,
steady of decades, laid at last to rest-
indeed,
loneliness is heavier
but the past
has kept me so removed... LO!
My focus
is cloudy still,
cataract'ed yet,
kill so, my eye has been lent
to long gleanings from a perspective no
longer sought-
now paid for, seen and bought.
