Wild Rose
My rose,
You are so beautiful
Perfect petals, elegantly placed
You've risen above the rest
With your face toward the sun
Soaking in her rays
You've kept yourself out of reach
And I've been too afraid to grasp
For you're protected by your thorns
I gaze from afar
Wondering how it might feel to be way up there
I imagine you get lonely, hiding behind your sharp walls
The air is fragrant with your sweet aroma
How much would I give to hold you close to me?
But I dare not pluck you from everything you've ever known
Because then you might wilt and die
I would have you but the life would be gone
And your life is so beautiful to me
I question myself,
Have you put her on a pedestal to keep her out of reach?
Have you belittled yourself and made yourself too small and insignificant?
Are you afraid to damage the relationship you have built, watching her grow and flourish from afar, nurturing her hoping she becomes everything she's meant to be?
Oh, my rose
How I wish to really call you mine
But you're wild and free
I'm your visitor, your friend
I can't protect you when I'm way down here
But i can do my best to ensure your survival
And show you how much you mean to me
