Full Circle
At first we were young lovers who only had to share;
Our bodies and our worldy goods, our hopes and our Corvair.
Magically our twoness blossomed into four;
Sleepless nights and tiny lives wondering what’s in store.
Sprinkle in a mortgage, and add a station wagon;
Scouting; braces, school plays and a costume for a dragon!
Charge accounts; and pillow fights; a gerbil and two dogs;
PTA and ballet lessons; neighbors and in-laws!
From a simple bonding born of admiration;
We became as complex as a world class corporation!
Life insurance; profit margins; school tuition plans;
Driving lessons; graduation; both have wedding plans!
I wondered walking down the aisle to give them to another;
Why my wife was crying, like every new bride’s mother;
Does she cry for knowing what our daughter’s headed to?
Or are her tears because she knows
it's just, once more, we two?
