Sundowners Club
They reached the sundown of their lives
Many had been faithful loving wives
But no longer with their husband’s tarry
For death has taken the one they did marry
So together at the cemetery they gather
Something that they would not rather
And talk and sometime crack a joke
But mostly tears back they do choke
Some have been here for many a year
But others are new to this kind of tears
They call themselves the sundown club
A name for the group one of them did dub
The widows of a generation strong
When couples learned to get along
Where divorce was the exception you see
Loving no matter what was the decree
Most of them were women but now and then
They did admit to the club some men
Then it happened unexpectedly per chance
Once in a while there started a romance
For the sun may be near time to set
But they were not gone from this world yet
So life goes on and so does love
As their mates smiled from heaven above
