Diary
It falls open
like the most natural thing in the world
Dog-eared pages
framed with ink-stained thumbprints
Flocks of words
herded within the cramped confines of college-ruled paper
Twisting, bending
leaning on each other for support
Hiding names that hide
confessions
answers
that lead to more questions than they’re worth
testimonies posing as hasty scrawls
adjectives soaked in guilt
epiphanies cornered by commas
and
the
words
shiver
down
the
page
chilled by their own meaning
Desperately scrambling at the edges
clawing their way through choppy sentences
Shocking themselves with letters that
crumble
and
quiver
and
leave not the tiniest ounce of doubt
to what they mean
and to what they could mean
