If i could pen a book
If I could pen a book my book would be you.
If I could pen a book my book would be you.
I would write each page by hand, and roll the letters with the fingers
that hold the back of your sleeping head to me.
White pages would be our sheets.
And I’d roll and toss you from edge to sharp edge,
fighting your strength and laughing punctuation,
and then collapse, with an indignant full-stop (out of breath) to kiss you
with my signature.
I’d bind you in calf, so soft it could only be a book about your skin.
I’d stretch it taut, and run my tongue up the spine of the back of your neck
to set the pages.
I’d guild the edges with kisses, and I’d bind it with a cord so tight
it could bruise the hide…but not quite.
I’d cut the cord with my teeth and seal it with the wax of my blood,
so no other hand could thumb the pages.
