Trying He struggled in vain; he always fell
Such determination didn’t seem possible; I’ve never seen him give up
Ever since the accident he’s tried so hard; he shouldn't push himself so far

He’s been in the hospital for so long; he keeps trying
I don’t understand; they told us he was getting better
How can this be; there must be some mistake

His clear blue eyes were so dark; it made me want to cry
Seeing someone you love so helpless; so childlike and simple
I can’t believe he gave up; his hope was all I had left to lean on

His lungs and heart were so tired; he couldn't breathe on his own anymore
His eyes never opened anymore; eternally he slept
Just once I'd like for him to wake; I never even got to say goodbye
